Tossed in the air

Being carefree is something that comes natural to kids.  When on my photo shoots, I like to have fun with kids and do things they love to do. On this day, it was having fun playing into an imaginary bear Fuzz and his owner Leili.  All dolled up with a pink, pressed coat, matching Converse, and a sequined heart shirt, Leili and Fuzz were all pepped up for a day in the park in Denver shooting with yours truly. Remember, having fun is important!

love is in the air

When I shoot engagement sessions with couples it is always hard to pick my favorite images.  On this shoot, it was a minimum of 10.  The best part about my job as a photographer is getting to meet wonderful people and seeing how much they truly care for one another.  Most of the time, words can't describe love, but I believe pictures can. Take a look at what joy love has offered Jacob and Chandra. Congrats on your engagement!

Summer is here "Lori J Photography's Top 10 reasons to get married in the summer in Colorado"

My take on the "Top 10 reasons to get married in the summer in Colorado"

1. Wonderful color schemes and themes to include in all of the details

of your wedding. From bright colors of pinks and purples to fun
sparklers and
2. A wider selection of flowers for your bouquet and flower
arrangements. Summer offers beautiful flowers, my favorites are
peonies, sunflowers, and stephanotis.
3. Having a mountain wedding and enjoying all of the scenic views of
your venue without the cold and snow. Let’s face it, Coloradoans look
forward to the summer as much as they do getting out their winter
recreation gear.
4. The opportunity for wonderful sunset photographs for you to
cherish. The summertime lighting for photographers offers more
coverage options for a longer duration of time. Make time for the the
romantic look of a sunset for your wedding day by sneaking away during
your reception for a sunset photograph.
5. More versatility with your venue and its characteristics you adore.
Some venues offer indoor and outdoor versatility. In the summertime
you can plan to utilize this option to change the look of your event
to awe your guests and enjoy the events as they unfold.
6. The ability to opt for a lighter weight dress and/or suit. Wedding
gowns and suits can be heavy and hot. The summertime allows for brides
and grooms to take advantage of gorgeous wedding attire without
loosing its elegance.
7. Be unique
8. Enjoy fabulous healthy deserts using summer fruits. Take advantage
of the in season colorful fruits by infusing still water, carbinated
water and/or liquor with strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, lemons, or
raspberries. It will double as a decoration and make wonderful
photographs to records the details of your wedding day.
9. FLIP FLOPS- Flip flops are a nessesity for summer. What a great way
to be comfortable and save your energy for dancing around with you
sweetheart and your wedding guest to create memorable images for your
wedding album.
10. The longer summer days allow for the opportunity for weeknight or
early weekend weddings. You can enjoy the benefits of discounted rates
and your wedding guests can enjoy the abiance of summer.

Ordinary things

It is not often that we get a chance to look around at the ordinary things that are beautiful in their own right. I experienced this during my trip the The Four Seasons Hotel in Denver. As many visually appealing beauty this hotel has to offer, I took the opportunity to photograph the mundane items we see each day.  Windows, walls, texture, stairs, shadows, light.....all of the things that I personal neglect to pay attention to.

As you start your weekend, be mindful of things you don't pay attention to. Take the time, even if for a few moments, to enjoy beautiful in ordinary things.

In Bloom

Last week I blogged about the awesome rosebush in my yard. This week during the continuation of rainy days in Denver, the roses bloomed. They were huge! I took picture of them to follow up on my previous rose photography. I should have posted this on mothers day but I didn't have that great idea until just now.  Enjoy and have an awesome day!

Red red red....

On a rainy day in Denver I was reminded of Germany.  As I glared out the back window watching the rain fall, I discovered the tree in the backyard is not a tree.....its a rosebush.  I have taken a liking to the smell of fresh flowers. However, I have never been able to keep anything alive long enough for it to become as tall as this rosebush.  Needless to say, I was delighted to have a rosebush in my own backyard.

I have had my new Canon L Series lens for a while but have been keeping it tucked away so that it would last longer.  After these vibrant shots of red roses, I can't wait to retire my old lens!!!

Beautiful places

I went to visit family in a small little town. They took me to a beautiful field off of the road. Wildflowers and green grass surrounded huge trees. I don't get to see trees that big or grass that green in Colorado. I came well equipped with a basket and my nephew. I got one good snap of him before he passed out for a nap.

Cake in the face

Cake cutting is a momental time at the wedding reception. This is always such a great part of the night when guests and me as the photographer are waiting to see how the lovely couple will feed each other that cake. Well on this special evening at my cousins wedding, I had the joy of knowing that he was planning to be nice and then sweet. It was very exciting to keep this secret, especially since as a wedding photographer, I never know what the bride or groom is planning. The bride got her revenge!!
Enjoy the pics!

On my recent trip to Florida, I got the pleasure of taking pictures some baby pictures in the greenery of the trees.  I forgot how green Florida is compared to Colorado. Through all of squirming around and repositioning in the cute little basket, I got an array of great shots. Those little things that grandmas and aunties knit make great backdrops for baby photo shoots

Here are a few of my favorites!
