New Art in Wild Blueberry Uptown Denver

In the heart of Uptown Denver, Colorado lies a wonderful little shop with the neatest gifts, art, decor, and accessories.  The items in the shop of window at Wild Blueberry always caught my eye, but one day, I made the time and stopped in.  Taking a peak around, I got to chat with the owner Sue and visit with the two store dogs.

I am pleased to say that Lori J Photography currently has two mixed media photography to canvas transfers up in the Wild Blueberry store.  It is great to meet wonderful people in the neighborhood like Sue and also have wonderful business' that keep Denver up and running.

Time marches on

I can't believe how much time passes by! It seems like just yesterday I was celebrating Katie and Brian's wedding taking photos out in the snow. Then the next minute, I am getting a call for family portraits with their lil' munchkin. We scheduled our shoot and on the day of it was cold outside. We continued with the shoot and took some breaks in the car from the cold. Got some great shots and can't wait to catch up and hear about whats been going on and get some great images picked out for their holiday cards!!!

Time for surveys

Lets face it, I take pictures all the time and I am also my own worst critic. Plus, my friends and family are too biased to give an honest opinion about my work. As a person interested in research, I decided to apply that technique to my photography business. Because I really want to know and truly card about my clients experience.

In order to make sure I am doing my absolute best, I want to hear from all of you. I just sent out a survey for 2012 shoots done thus far, I know, I know, it's November. What better time for me to take advantage of off peak time and get some feedback. I also want to feature my clients favorite photos on my website. So please feel free to post, email, or call with your favorite photo. I would love to hear from you.

Enjoy the chili day in Denver.

Love birds and Pintrest inspirations..A Session Premier!

Take two of the engagement session with Justin and Cassie (because....oops, I forgot my phone the first time and we were in two different places). This engagement session brought us to a trail at Red Rocks. On our little hike I got to hear about how the two met and knew the same people but rarely ran into each other. What a neat story, I often get to hear love stories is this one seems to be aligned by the stars.

The two giggled and laughed together as I snapped away with my camera. We ventured along to a sunlight field where Pintrest inspiration props topped off our shoot, marking the date in chalk and hanging the banner in the trees.  The projects made by Cassie herself were a great addition to our shoot and shows how great and creative planning a wedding can be!!!

Thanks to Justin and Cassie for a great shoot and sharing a glimpse of your love for the day. I can't wait for you two to see the rest of the shots!

I have my work cut out for me

Me being a photographer is me being me so every now and then I like to share a little bit about my day.

After a never-ending To-Do list, I took a break and headed off to the gym. Which was super hard, especially on gloomy days like today. What I really wanted to do was watch a movie and drink hot cocoa. Thankfully Colorado has more than 365 days of sunshine.....just not today.

After a long workout, I got back on my laptop and started editing my images from my last event. My two dogs get to cuddle up in a nice blanket and stare out the window. So I take a break and snap some shots of them. Oh the life of a dog! Oh and a little grande Starbucks never hurts! On with the edits.........

Introducing Halloween Mini Sessions

We have had a great time putting together a shoot just for kids and/or their families. I think that Halloween is a fun, innocent time for kids to have an excuse to dress up, play around, have fun, and most of all eat all of that sweet candy. We kept this in mind when creating the mini shoot. We even hopped in the scenery for our own picture (see below). We hope to see a lot of families in Thornton taking advantage of what this mini session has to offer. Please make your reservation in the spirit of children and Halloween.

We hope to see you there!!!!

Candid moments

I was at a wedding this weekend at the Christies of Genesee venue. I especially like this venue because the staff works as such a great team and is always very inviting to me as a vendor. This wedding included the most adorable children who made use of all of the ambiance of the garden area at Christies. I got the snapshot below of the two little ones gazing into the pond while standing on the bridge. It was so cute! I really love getting those pictures. Despite the bride and groom being busy with all of the details of their special day, I captured it with my camera for them to cherish later as they look through their wedding images for the first time.

Congrats to H & T! I wish you the best and hope that you continue to keep each other smiling.

A beautiful wedding nestled in the trees

This weekend I joined C & R for their lovely wedding nestled in the trees of her grandparents back yard. The day started with perfect weather and a pop of champagne with the ladies in waiting. As I snapped pictures to record the day, I soon found the brides gown in the basement sewing room. A handmade wedding gown, what other perfect wedding gift could a bride receive from her mom on her wedding day? It was perfect!

After a ceremony of tying the knot (literally), some photos in the church courtyard, an early locking of the church doors with my equipment still inside, and a key to avoid the emergency, the couple drove off in the antique Rolls-Royce with glasses of champagne in hand. At the reception, the garden party was beautifully decorated with accents of blue, cake topper made by the bride, and garden gnomes hidden throughout the lawn. I was given the task to find these gnomes and I only located 6.

I wish the joining of these two families much happiness and bonding in the years to come. May you marriage always be as beautiful as the two of you are.

Brides.....don't DIY yourself to death

It is the last month approaching your wedding......you realize that you have way too much to do. Instead of enjoying the planning and relishing the details of your wedding, you have to run around, get supplies, and beg your friends, family, and your soon to be husband to be to help you finish all of the details. There is just one thing.............you are not enjoying yourself running around like a chicken with your head cut off.  Of course your wedding day should be fabulous, but you should not have to give up all of your time of enjoying the process.

This was me about 8 years ago when I got married.  As an artistic bride, I wanted everything "one of a kind", of course my wedding turned out fabulous and I had a good time, BUT, in retrospect, I wish I would have paid a event planner to take care of those details for me. I admit the idea of an event planner seams expensive, but overall the time and money they save you is worth the little bit of change out of your pocket upfront. You couples out there have wonderful ideas, I am sure you can communicate those to a wedding planner.

Suggestions, keep it simple but elegant. Take a moment to calculate how much time a project will take you versus hiring someone to do it for you. That way on the big day, you are in awe of your own reception and are glad you did not work up to the last second making EVERYTHING!

Happy wedding planning!

Excited for Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it is a little soon for a post on Halloween, BUT my whole day has been consumed by thoughts of HALLOWEEN!!! My husband and I love Halloween. We are planning a little costume party at our house this year and just spent a few minutes talking to the neighbors about it.  Even my dogs like to eat pumpkin when we are carving them.

It is such an exciting time of the change of the season from hot summer to the cool, dry air of fall. Not only are there so many photography opportunities during the fall months (**more news to come on mini sessions), DYI decorations are key to a successful Halloween party.
