Interview with a Colorado Event Planner- Denver Wedding Photographer

The holidays are full of new engagements, so, tis the season for wedding planning.  Lori J Photography has had the pleasure of teaming up with Lisa Dorenfeld of Lisabeth Events to start off the 2014 year. We are super excited!!! I also had the pleasure of photographing Lisa's professional portraits for the face of Lisabeth Events.

As a photographer, I hear a lot of reasons why folks wished the had a wedding planner for their wedding. Ladies often say they though it would be too expensive, its really not! I, myself am one of those brides who wished I had a wedding planner. The "day of" messes are bound to happend and it is fabulous to have a "go to person" to send a text or call to have them handle things for you. Your wedding day should be relaxing and spending time soaking in the joy and the company of your friends and family, NOT running around, setting up, and worrying, that doesn't sound fun at all.

Working with a wedding planner can also save you big bucks! When vendors team up together, you often get preferred pricing. Vendors love working with each other and when they get to, the day runs smoother and you get to kick back and enjoy the financial perks, and the details of your wedding day. To introduce this idea of wedding planning, Lisa will be talking a little about wedding planning.

Introducing Lisa of Lisabeth Events your Colorado Event Planner:
Hello! My name is Lisa Dorenfeld. I am a Colorado native and love living in the most beautiful state. I have always been very organized and the love of helping friends put together weddings/events has ignited my passion to become an event planner.

I met my husband at Colorado State University and we have been together for 6 years. I am also a newly wed, so I know what it feels like to plan a wedding and how it feels to be overwhelmed by all the choices that a bride faces. That is why is it so helpful to have a planner, we are able to take away and carry some of the burden you feel to make decisions alone as a bride. I have also experienced a wedding without a planner, and due to Murphy's Law, things are bound to go wrong. With a planner you are ensuring that no matter what happens on your special day that you will be able to relax and enjoy your family/friends and most importantly your soon to be husband! No one wants to work hard on putting together their perfect day to see things fall apart because you can't watch over all of the staff to make sure things are going off without a hitch. The last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is micromanaging people you don't know, just to be stressed out as you walk down the aisle. I am there to ensure that you can fully enjoy your day in the spotlight.

Tips-
I tell brides to pick their date first. If they have a specific venue that they have always wanted, they need to make sure they are a little flexible depending on the time of year and how busy that venue tends to be. Naturally, booking the venue is usually the next best step, this will ease their mind about how to decorate, pick their dress, and how many guests they are able to invite. And of course the dress is another big step after getting engaged. Depending on where they buy the dress, they might have to wait 6-9 months to get that dress in, and then there are usually alterations. So always keep in mind how much time you have so you can get that dream dress.

My absolute favorite thing about weddings is when the officiant announces the bride and groom as husband and wife. It is amazing to see the look on their faces, it is always pure love and joy. It always brings a warmth to my heart and it is in that moment that you see how much they truly love each other.
It is always good in the wedding industry to find vendors that know each other and have a professional relationship established. They are able to communicate efficiently and we know how each other work, creating a better work environment in which we can do our jobs to our best abilities. We are able to work as a well oiled machine and being familiar with who we are working with can create an amazing wedding!

Family Fun in Evergreen- Denver Family Portrait Photographer

The S family planned their Thanksgiving weekend in Denver and it was time to get some updated family photography. We planned to meet at Evergreen Lakehouse and the weather was to be mid 50's, Perfect! Well, that morning, the snow clouds started rolling in and so did the cold temperatures. They also informed me how "unphotogenic" they were.  I couldn't beleive it because as a photographer, that is what everyone says that about themselves. People think I am looking for something specific.  But really, I want to capture them and the essentce of their family. This family was no exception! And looking at these photos, I can say that we didn't get  shots of an "unphotogenic" family. Not nearly! And they didn't even look like they were freezing...which they were. They are delightful people and I am happy to have captured these images for them to cherish forever. Thank you to the S. Family, you are all awesome! And a big Thanks to Laura S. for the refferral!

Rainy Day full of Wedding Joy "Sneak Peek"- Denver Wedding Photographer

A vintage themed wedding with pale pink accents took place at the historic Lumber Baron Inn in Denver. This Bed and Breakfast was the perfect venue for this couples wedding. As the rain poured on Colorado, the the couple braced themselves with an alternate plan for their garden wedding. Everyone rushed around to placed the chairs in the parlor for the guests. The warmth and charm of the vintage mansion accented the classic tuxes of the groomsmen and classic pink and black bridesmaids dresses.

Its a tricky day when rain presents! Some say rain is meant to be good luck on your wedding day. I would like to think that this rain has showered the best of luck on Cassandra and Justin's marriage!
Congratulations you two! Enjoy the Sneak Peek.

Denver Family Portrait Photography- Fall Family Portraits

It's that time of the year, changing colors, warm clothes, cool-crisp air, and trips to Starbucks for Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Oh wait! That was all about what I like during the Fall. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year!!! As a professional portrait photographer, I LOVE when families want to bundle up and get outside in the morning for Fall Family photography. The colors of the leaves contrasted with green grass, make the PER-FECT family photo. Here in Denver, we have a vast amount of landscape to pick from too.

Every year, AND I mean EVERY year, families miss the perfect time for Fall photos. My clients call Lori J Photography in December and rush to get pictures in the FRIGID December snow, rush the family off to a photography session, rush print their Holiday cards, RUSH, RUSH, RUSH!  I feel their sense of urgency! Lets face it, you have a hard job as parents and Holiday cards probably do not enter your mind until Thanksgiving. By then, it's cold, you are swamped with family gatherings, holiday shopping, baking, and keeping the kids occupied inside. So instead, you settle for a general holiday card just to say hello, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year.

Be on top of it this year. Take a moment to evaluate what you desire in your family portrait. Let Lori J Photography take care of your photographs and your holiday cards and enhance your family look.

Your photography session is customized to your families personality and interests. It's not just a picture! Anyone can take a picture. Family portrait photography is about capturing a moment in time and capturing the essence of your family. This year invest in more than just a picture. Invest in an experience!

Take a look at some other family sessions that I have blogged on in the past.

Mountain View Wedding- Denver Wedding Photographer

The Rocky Mountains, a picture perfect landscape, why not throw a wedding? Well I was able to do this over the summer. While camping, I found the most pristine location to photograph the picture perfect wedding. The lush landscape provided yellow wild flowers, green grass, the mountain view, and a few clouds to role through the big, blue sky. The day was perfect and we nearly missed a rainstorm.  The bride and groom were fabulous!

A big thank you to Breyanna of Be Beautiful Cosmetic Design. Be sure to go like her Facebook page, while you are there, like Lori J Photography Facebook Page Facebook too. Enjoy the photos and get some last minute Colorado Hiking in this summer. Lori J Photography Pinterest

Furry Friends Mini Session- Denver Pet Photography

This Summer has been a blast! I have spent so much time outdoors snapping away with my camera. I set some time aside to host the Furry Friends Mini Photography sessions in June of this year. It was so much fun, I really love dogs and felt that this project was important. This year was especially sad as many of my friends had their beloved pets pass away and really wished they had gotten some images to capture their pooch so they could cherish there pooch just they way they were in their final days. I know that generally people don't think to get a photographer for their pets, however, a pet is part of the family. These moments are memories that can be cherished for a lifetime. You can't deny these furry friends from my photography shoot from bringing a smile to your face.

I had two adorable dogs in round two of the Furry Friends Mini Photography Sessions in Denver, Seamus and Adelaide. Check out the playful dogs below. I was told they enjoyed their toys when they got home from our session. I got one cell phone photo with a thank you from Seamus, a thank you card from Adelaide with a follow-up photo of the demolished dog toy (She ate the ears off first). But man these pups sure know how to say thank you! On that note, I have to say a big THANK YOU to my doggie goodie bag sponsor, Green Buddies USA, off Colfax, they supplied heathy treats for the Furry Friend Mini Session.
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

If you are intersted in being a part of next years Furry Friends Mini Sessions, please email info@lorijphotography.com and I will add you to my newsletter distribution.

Sneak Peek! Wedding Romance in the City

As a wedding photographer, Saturday afternoons are reserved for weddings. I especially love weddings and not just because its my job. I believe in love, soul mates, hearts flowers, and romance! YAY! I know gushy stuff, but its important! On a June Saturday afternoon, I gathered my things to head to Downtown Denver to photograph Tim and Susan's wedding. I was super excited! I had seen all of the lovely Facebook posts on their pages from friends and family with best wishes. Yay, wedding day!

A day filled with cocktails, delicious appetizers, scavenger hunts, a photo booth, and a play table for the kiddos, this Artwork Network wedding turned out fabulous! This couple is so in love, they couldn't get enough of each other during their photographic moments, they commented, "It helps when you love the person". Well, that goes without saying! But they were especially cute and sincere during their First Look moment alone and their classy first dance.

Without further adieu...presenting a Sneak Peek of the wedding. (I saved some of the best for their private viewing Session Premiere.)

Drool and squeak toys!

I love dogs! I have two of my own and they steal my heart. Our animals are family members in our households. Most people would not think to get photography of their dogs until it is too late. I cherish life's moments and see photography as a visual representation of a moment in time for us to remember. Please take a moments to pet your animals today and take a moment to enjoy the smiles they bring you.

The Furry Friends Mini Session was a hit! I recruited my husband to help me with this photo session because I knew that being behind the camera and taming a few puppies, was a multitasking job that I couldn't tackle. It was a fabulous overcast day, which is a photographers dream! As each dog arrived at the shoot, the owners received their goodie bags filled with coupons, organic treats, all natural dog bones, and a squeak toy.  The dogs knew that behind that tissue paper was a treat, so they tore into the tissue paper and trampled over the lovely bag. I guess the dogs didn't care as much about presentation as us humans.

Did you miss this mini session, well then sign up for updates on the blog or Facebook and stay tuned for the next themed mini session held by Lori J Photography. I picked a few of my favorite images. Enjoy!
